The Great Lakes Internet Exchange: Powering Northern Ontario's Digital Future
GL-IX was founded with a clear purpose: to bridge the digital divide in Northern Ontario by providing enterprise-grade connectivity solutions. As part of the SuperiorColo initiative by Donald L Davidson Fuels Ltd, we're committed to developing critical digital infrastructure in underserved regions.
Our exchange point in Wawa serves as a crucial nexus for ISPs, content providers, and enterprises, enabling direct peering and reducing latency while improving reliability across the region.
Located at 160 Mills Drive in Wawa, Ontario, our facility sits at a strategic point along the Trans-Canada Highway, positioned perfectly to serve as a critical infrastructure hub between Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay.
With our dedicated fiber connection to Equinix Toronto (151 Front St), we provide Northern Ontario businesses and service providers with direct access to one of Canada's most important internet hubs.
GL-IX is more than just an internet exchange – it's the foundation of a digital corridor designed to transform Northern Ontario's connectivity landscape. Our roadmap includes expansion to additional communities along the Trans-Canada Highway, creating a resilient network of exchange points from Sault Ste. Marie to Thunder Bay.
Through strategic partnerships with local governments, indigenous communities, and telecommunications providers, we aim to stimulate economic growth, support remote work opportunities, and enable advanced educational resources throughout the region.
